Housing and ImpactWith a population of 21.15 million and growing, Beijing is dealing with a major housing shortage. This explains why thousands of immigrants looking for affordable homes in the city are going underground. These underground homes are windowless buried deep in the streets, barely any room to move. People living there have made the move looking for jobs. As the housing market is incredibly expensive, these tiny underground apartments are their only way to survival. But it's a different situation for others, most families live in villa housing in suburban, Shunyi. Houses in Shunyi are gated communities with patrolling guards, it may seem weird but is the normal for them. A lot of the houses aren't properly maintained or well built, obviously the foundation wasn't any good.
